Testing Accommodations for Students with Disabilities

Florida State University seeks to assure that qualified students with disabilities will have an educational opportunity equal to that of their peers without creating an unfair advantage. It is the University’s policy that FSU students requiring accommodations MUST identify themselves and register with the Office of Accessibility Services (OAS). The OAS is the university’s designated entity responsible for determining eligibility, level of service, as well as appropriate and reasonable accommodations.

Students needing accommodations

Make certain you have documented your need for accommodation via OAS and shared this with your instructor and, if applicable, your exam sponsor (e.g., CollegeBoard, ATI Testing, Certiport) so that you can be granted any accommodations necessary for your exam(s). Your accommodation letter will describe the specific testing accommodations you will be provided.

  • If your test is being administered online (i.e., through Canvas), make sure your instructor has adjusted his or her test settings for you, such as increasing the exam duration. If your instructor has elected to use Honorlock, please visit our Honorlock Resources for Students article for technical requirements, user guidelines, Honorlock support information, and frequently asked questions.
  • If you are attending the main campus in Tallahassee and require on-campus accommodation, you may be able to test at OAS. Find their contact information below:

Instructors giving accommodations

  • As stated by OAS: "It is the student’s responsibility to make their accommodation needs known and to provide the appropriate documentation to support the need for the requested accommodations. Students are also responsible for renewing their affiliation and services with the Office of Accessibility Services (OAS) each semester. "
  • Your student or OAS may request that you add extra time to the student's exam. Once appropriate documentation is received, you can grant extra time by following the steps outlined in How to allow extra time for student(s) on a Canvas assessment
  • If the student is attending the main campus in Tallahassee and requires on-campus accommodation, the student may register to take the exam at OAS. Find their contact information below:
